I called the dealership, and even though this part is known to fail constantly in the Dakota trucks, they would not warranty or cover it under a recall.
I asked the shop what it would cost to fix-- they wanted $225 for the part, and another $150 labor.
I bought the part on Amazon for $50 and had it installed within 20 minutes, never having done this repair in my life-- for a trained tech I can't imagine it would take more than 10 minutes total.
Don't get ripped off by the dealers, do it yourself and save-- this part is quality aftermarket, easy to install, and even comes with a helpful diagram.
